As is pretty typical of web rants, I was quick to post my complaint...but never came back once it was resolved. I should probably do an update post, but here's the rundown.

* Drobo Support was very helpful and thorough, but at times asked me to do some fairly useless things to test.
* They happily sent me a replacement unit after I tried their tests.
* After that didn't work I decided to try rotating each of my drives out of the group, and completing testing with just 3.
* Turns out the most recently added drive (a WD Caviar Green) was the culprit.
* Once that drive was pulled from the rotation the speed picked right back up to normal.
* WD replaced the drive for free (minus my return shipping for the damaged one).

Everything has been more or less fine since then. I did happen to wake up to a failed drive on Friday, but happened to have an older 1TB drive sitting around. I panicked a little, unsure if replacing a 1.5TB with a 1TB would mess up the system. Called Drobo and they assured me that as long as I had at least 500GBs of space before the failure, it would be fine. Inserted that drive and after about 3 days the re-layout was complete. All of my data was available during that time, but performance was degraded until the re-layout was complete. Everything seems good now.

Hope this helps.

I can't explain it myself, but my drobo has slowed down so much that it's unusable. I don't have the extra drives to move the data, but man, what a pain! if you are saying the drobo didn't speed up since you transferred your data then reformatted, I'm tempted to just ditch it. I found this site last night:

I'm thinking yet again of a new type of storage solution.
