adventures in ownership

Sitting at my soon to be much used desk, making cutouts of furniture options for the living room,  I decided a drink was necessary.  Much to my surprise, I found instead of ice in the freezer, a soppy puddle.  Hmm. Don’t panic.  Called contractor to see if perhaps while they were working on the bathroom they had cut the fuse and left the kitchen power off all day.  He says no.  Don’t panic.  Pulled out the rusty trusty manual to the fridge to see if maybe there was an easy fix.  There was not.  Don’t panic.  Called GE hotline to try and talk to a service tech about a quick fix, and to my immense frustration… I just missed their 24-hr customer service window.  Note to self, 24-hr hotline does not always mean someone will answer the phone every hour of the day.  As a last resort I called the Dad to see if perhaps he had some wise words for me.  He did not.  I’ve come to the conclusion that the thermostat had a day, and stopped working.  Seems to be settling down now, I think at last read the freezer temp read 36 degrees.  Since it is supposed to be at 0, all is not well, but it started out at 41 so I guess we’re going in the right direction.  Decided not to pull everything out, and instead will maybe throw a BBQ tomorrow to cook up all the not-so-frozen chicken, salmon, veggies and potstickers. Maybe by then we’ll have ice.
